The Small Community Air Service Development Grant Program (SCASDP) as administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation is making $16.9 million in federal grant funding available to airports in FY21 for air service development. Willard Airport will receive $850,000 of funding to support air service development efforts to the Washington, DC region. Willard is the only airport in Illinois to receive funding during this award period.
“We couldn’t be happier to be selected for this grant, which will directly support a Minimum Revenue Guarantee (MRG) and associated marketing program to recruit, initiate, and support potential service to the Washington, DC region,” said Tim Bannon, Willard Airport Executive Director. “This grant will put our community in a strong position to continue efforts in landing a highly coveted route to the nation’s capital.”
The Department of Transportation received 48 applications from 30 states, requesting more than $33 million in funding to support air service development programs. Willard Airport is one of 25 communities to receive a funding during this year’s program. The SCASDP grant program was established by Congress in 2001 to assist smaller communities in enhancing their service and to address high fare issues.
