The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has named Andrew Smith as Assistant Director of Operations and Maintenance. In this position, he will be responsible for the operations, safety, security, and maintenance of Willard Airport (CMI). He will begin his position on August 22, 2022.
“I’m eager for Andrew to join our team as he brings a strong background in airport operations and information technology.” said Tim Bannon, Executive Director of Willard Airport. “We have an aggressive capital development program leading into the future which includes numerous airfield and terminal projects. Andrew will be leading these projects while overseeing daily operations, security, and maintenance activities. I’m certain that Andrew will be very successful in his new role.”
Bringing more than 10 years of aviation experience and a strong knowledge of airport operations, Mr. Smith most recently worked for Avports as Operations Supervisor, New York Stewart International Airport. While there, he coordinated with local government and local agencies, and assisted with the coordination of the NY Air Show Event at the airport as it related to emergency preparedness and incident management. He has also worked for Signature Flight Support in New York.

I can’t wait to help implement Willard Airport’s vision and continue to support the University of Illinois and the Champaign-Urbana community.”
Mr. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in Informatics from the State University of New York. He is also a Certified Member (C.M.) of the American Association of Airport Executives and has a Commercial Drone Pilot License.
