Runway 4/22 at Willard Airport is being equipped with new PAPIs (Precision Approach Path Indicators) as part of a broader effort to modernize and enhance airport safety after a recent rehabilitation of the runway.
PAPIs provide pilots with real-time, color-coded visual cues (red and white lights) that help them maintain the correct glide path during final approach – crucial for safe landings, especially in low visibility conditions. As the airport serves regional jets, like American’s ERJ‑170/175s, reliable glide path systems help maintain consistency and safety for heavier traffic.
With freshly laid pavement, upgraded LED lights, new markings, new underground wiring, and now new PAPIs, Runway 4/22 meets or exceeds all modern airfield design and safety standards.
